September 6, 2012

The Vibrators - Decry - Jawaz - Carpet Babies - at Characters - Pomona, CA - September 6, 2012Another Thursday of classic Punk rock in Pomona brought to by Gonzo (Local Promoter) these shows at Characters in Pomona are held in an outdoor patio section and have a nice outdoor feel to it. First up are the local SGV boys Carpet Babies. I believe this was their 2nd show or 3rd show as a band. They played some covers and originals. Very Mid-80’s sounding hardcore. The singer Bob is a great front man with his humor in between songs and his 70’s porno mustache. Members from Cranial Constipation, Red Scare and The Nipples (Dave/ Sam/ and Drew) are featured in Carpet Babies.

Up next are the Jawaz also from SGV. These guys have been around since 1995 and have developed very well since then. The band features Craig Cano on guitar from Naked Aggression/ Dr Know/ AFU. They remind me of a white SGV Bad Brains. There songs are fast but have great breakdowns. Worth checking out.

Next were SGV’s own: Decry. This band started out in the early 80’s and has continued playing all these years. They still have that classic 80’s punk sound while doing songs from there classic “Falling” LP. Decry also covers “Sonic Reducer” by the Dead Boys and “Neat Neat Neat” by the Dammed. Farrel Holtz, lead singer is still one of the best frontmen from the 80’s punk scene. Tonight, the band was tight and played a great set. Seems like as the night goes on… the bands are getting older and more classic.

The Vibrators took the stage playing all their great tunes including: Baby Baby/ Automatic Lover/ Whips and Furs/ and London Girls. This line-up featured Eddie on drums, Nigel from the “Members” and Pete on bass. First time I’ve seen them as a trio. These guys still rock hard and mean it. The power went out towards the end of there set, but that didn’t stop the flow of things as the crowd singing “Baby Baby.” A fun band to see and great guys to talk to. They met people after their set and talked Vibrators history and future.
