The Adicts play a secret show – at SlideBar – Fullerton, CA

March 3, 2011

The Adicts - Play secret show - at SlideBar - Fullerton, CA - March 3, 2011For an entire week, rumors circulated Orange County and Los Angeles concerning a secret Adicts show that was supposed to take place at Fullerton's Slidebar Thursday night. Earlier that day, the rumors seemed to finally find some truth in yet another rumor that "The Clockwork Boys," an Adicts cover band, was the actual band set to play Slidebar, and not in fact The Adicts. For those faithful and optimistic Adicts fans that decided to go anyway, their loyalty paid off because The Adicts WERE in fact playing a free secret show! (Sorry everyone, we had the 411 on this show a while back, yet we were all sworn to secrecy) Thursday night proved to be the ultimate treat to any Adicts fan because it provided the perfect union of a beautiful couple: FREE and ADICTS.
The Adicts at SlideBar
Slidebar witnessed one of the longest lines they've had for a show, and because of the extreme amounts of people waiting to get in, a large proportion of people were unable to get wristbands or even allowed to get into the overall bar because of room capacity.
The Adicts
Later into the night, those who were unlucky and did not get wristbands were able to have a sort of Adicts Imax 3D experience via the dining room. The Adicts were in the room adjacent to the dining area playing their live set, and meanwhile, the show was displayed on the flatscreens in the dining area with loud surround sound type speakers, thus at least compensating some of the unlucky fans with an Imax-like experience.

Before The Adicts even arrived on stage, the small venue inside Slidebar was filling up quickly, and it became difficult to move in any manner. When the band finally went on stage, to say "all hell broke loose" would be a complete understatement, and that phrase would in fact undermine the activity that ensued The Adicts' arrival.

When the band opened with "Joker In The Pack," the pushing and shoving commenced in unbelievable scenes, and as the song progressed, waves of shoving became so intense that people began falling over the stage. The waves of people crashing onto the stage also caused them to crash onto the speakers set up at the front of the stage, and the band's road crew had to rush to the front and hold onto them for the remainder of the show because of the intensity of the bodies falling.
The Adicts
Despite the packed show, The Adicts carried on and played a usual set that consisted of fan favorites like, "Angel," "4-3-2-1," "Troubadour," "Life Goes On," "Steamroller," "Viva La Revolution" and many more. Glitter, confetti, and party streamers did not fail to make their appearance, and they flew around the small venue from time to time.
The Adicts playing Naughty Girl
Halfway through the band's set, vocalist "Monkey" asked if there were any naughty girls out in the audience, and several women went up on stage and danced alongside the band through the remainder of the song. Finally, after playing a little over an hour, The Adicts dismissed themselves and seemed to be getting ready to make their exit, but the crowd began to sing their songs in unison, refusing to let go of the night so soon.

The Adicts then got to their places and gave the audience a three song encore that they undoubtedly deserved. After the encore was over, the show ended, and everyone made their exit out of the venue and back into the bar.

For those who persevered through the gruesome rumors of whether or not The Adicts were playing a free secret show, their loyalty ultimately paid off Thursday night as the band treated the true believers to a great show.
The Adicts
The show was an immense surprise to fans, all a free ride, and it was definitely one of the best rumors ever spread about a band.
This show kicks off their US tour that will take them all over the United States. Big Wheel of course has staff embedded with the Adicts on the entire US tour so look for even more reports from the road.
