Street Dogs – The Stitches – Chaser – The Disgustingtons – at The Glasshouse – Pomona, CA

August 14, 2010

Street DogsOn Saturday night many people headed down to Pomona for two reasons, the farmers market and a Punk rock show at The Glasshouse. The Glasshouse didn’t have a line of people outside, but instead everyone that was attending the Street Dogs show scoped out the market before the show started. The line-up for the night was Street Dogs, The Stitches, Chaser, and The Disgustingtons.

The Disgustingtons opened the show with their fast old school Punk songs. There was only a small crowd watching the band play, but it was obvious that some in the crowd had developed an interest in their music. Many heads bobbed slightly to the fast paced songs.

The vocalist/guitarist threw their demo out into the crowd every so often. Towards the end of their set, they invited Jughead’s Revenge vocalist Joe D to the stage to sing with them and they performed a cover from the Wretched Ones. Afterwards they played a few more songs and ended their set.

As Chaser took the stage more people entered the venue but it was still a pretty small crowd for the big venue. Chaser instantly began playing fast, melodic, hard Punk music. It showed immensely that Chaser is heavily influenced by metal, Punk, and hardcore music. They had a handful of fans in the crowd who knew the words and who started a mini pit. Chaser is very entertaining to watch. Not only did they play good music, but they were completely energetic and made sure they kept everyone’s attention.
The Stitches
Finally The Stitches began playing. Their fun, fast, raw music caused many to nod their heads and dance in place. The Stitches were very youthful and entertaining on stage. Vocalist Mike Lohrman was most entertaining on stage as he did goofy dance moves and walked around the stage. They played songs like “Sixteen”, “Automatic”, and “My Baby Hates Me”. At one point during their set, an older man who looked to be in his late 40’s ran across stage, and did a stage dive into the crowd, but no one caught him. He smacked the floor, but got right back up and sung along to the music. The Stitches introduced their next song as “Floozy of the Neighborhood” and dedicated it to a good friend of theirs that was at the show.  Shortly after, they ended their set, causing everyone to become anxious for Street Dogs to come on.
Street Dogs at The Glass House
Sometime after The Stitches played, a huge crowd of people were now inside the venue, all there to see Street Dogs. About 20 minutes later the lights dimmed, fans cheered, and then waited for the members of Street Dogs to appear on stage. They opened with two new songs, and even though fans didn’t know the words, they still managed to pull of a huge circle pit. The familiar songs began as they played “Not Without A Purpose” and then went straight into “Common People”. Afterwards, Mike Mc Colgan was happy to announce the birth of his newborn son. They went on to play more songs like “Toby’s Got  A Drinking Problem”, “In Defense of Dorchester”, “Drink Tonight”, “Back to the World”, and two more new songs. Mike McColgan gave shout outs to each of the bands and even gave a shout out to Old Shoe Records, and expressed how much he appreciated their presence. They said this would be their last song and began playing “Fighter”. The Street Dogs said goodnight but everyone knew it wasn’t over.
Street Dogs in Pomona
People began chanting “Let’s go Street Dogs!” until the band came back out. They played a slow song called “Free” which didn’t require any drumming with it. The Street Dogs asked the crowd to get crazy in the circle pit for the next song because they were going to take us back in time. They played “Savin Hill” and got what they wanted. Like he had been doing throughout the show, Mike jumped on the barricades and sang with the crowd. He even crowd surfed a few times, gave high fives, and let fans sing into the microphone. Immediately following, they played “You Alone” and then ended their set with “Boston Breakout”. The crowd cheered and some even yelled for one more song to be played, but it wasn’t going to happen. It was a great show and there couldn’t have been a better headliner than the Street Dogs. They are a band you never want to miss any time they headline.
