Rumble in Ramona with – Duane Peters Gunfight – JFA – The Smut Peddlers

October 18, 2008

JFA photoGish from the Smut Peddlers had called me earlier that day and told me that they were playing a show in city called Ramona, San Diego county. I thought it would be a long trip but what a great opportunity to take Brent to a fun event. Man, I’m glad we did. What an awesome time we had.

The  weekend starts here, my friend Brent Loveday of Reno Divorce from Denver Colorado flew in the other day. He had a solo acoustic gig at The Pike restaurant and bar in Long Beach the night before. It was a great time and a few of our local suspects came. Thanks Tom, Tammy, Riff, Bull, Lt. Ted and all the others. Brent was really stoked with all the support and the crowd had a blast.

Creature skateboards sponsored the Rumble in Ramona, international vert contest and car show. The skaters were on fire! Many notable names such as Darren Navarrette, Al Partanen, Josh Stafford, Eddie Reategui, Jake Brown, Omar Hassan, Chuck Wampler, Christian Hosoi, even Wade Speyer from Northern Cal came down, and our own Duane Peters were tearing it up amongst others. All players got away without any major injuries however lets just say there was a lot of skin left on the ramp.

The music started of with Duane Peter’s Gunfight. This is the first time I had seen them live. I am very partial to all of Duane’s bands. I love all of the songs and Duane’s style. There’s no bullshit with that guy. What you see is what you get. What a nice guy on top of it all. The set was great and many new songs I heard for the first time.

JFA set up and took no time at all to fire off their unique style of Punk rock. From slow melodic keyboards to fast thrashing guitars, JFA never disappoints. A crowd pleaser for sure, as all surrounding the stage were going of to the up close and personal setting. All the favorites were covered including the “Peanuts” theme!

Now it was time for the Smut Peddlers. A personal favorite, just perfect for such an event. John Ransom took to jousting with the crowd right away as they tore into a raging set. With the vert ramp in the background and a small thrashing pit, it was hard to know where to turn the attention. The sun was down and the beer was flowing. Everybody had a great time. Can’t wait till next year. Hope you all enjoy the pictures.
