December 27, 2012

Tijuana Panthers - Reverend Horton Heat - and Jello Biafra - at The Fonda - Los Angeles, CA - December 27, 2012Tijuana Panthers, the mighty Reverend Horton Heat, and Jello Biafra teamed up for a bad ass show at the Fonda on Thursday with a special guest appearance from Lee Rocker. Here is a recap, as well as some great photos from the show.

First up was the Tijuana Panthers from Long Beach, a strong trio which sounded like a cross between Jonathan Richmond and The Urinals. Kinda Surfy with a post punk edge. A nice opener....

Up next was the Reverend Horton Heat. The lights went out and an old "Hi-Karate" commercial played over the P.A. When the lights came back on the Rev. started playing Psychobilly Freakout. The crowd went wild as Rev. and his band rumbled through their opener.

After the opening song, the band played one song from each of their 7 LP's. The band, a trio is The Reverend, Jimbo and the return of their one time drummer "Scott Scottzilla Churilla" who has been playing with the Supersuckers.  The night was filled with  surprises as the Rev. then announced their guest on bass, Lee Rocker. They then processed to play "That's alright Mama" with Lee Rocker on bass and vocals. It was a nice surprise.

The next surprise was Jimbo switching instruments with the Rev. and doing "Run Run Rudolf" by Chuck Berry. Jimbo pulled it off very well and even played some good guitar lick's. The next surprise was the one people were waiting for. Mr. Jello Biafra on vocals.

Jello came on stage with cape and all. He started singing "Jezebel" and did a really good version. The crowd wouldn't let him go without doing a few DK tune's: Holiday in Cambodia and Too Drunk To Fuck with Jello stage diving into the audience.

The did a few more covers with Jello: House of the Rising Sun and Viva Las Vegas. Jello also managed to fit in one of his songs "Dillinger" which came out really well and fit the evening perfect. Overall a very good, well performed, exciting concert.
