Part Time Punks Night featuring Saccharine Trust – Deadbeats – and Trembling Hills – at The Echo – Los Angeles, CA

January 6, 2013

January 6th was a night I had been waiting for. Part Time Punks night at the Echo featured Saccharine Trust and Deadbeats. The opener, Trembling Hills, was a very nice fit for this classic Punk show. A very strong trio, kinda arty Punk like a 3 piece Wire.

While I don't know much about Trembling Hills,I would definitely check them out again. The would be worth your time to google if you haven't heard of them.

Next up the mighty Deadbeats, haven't seen them in awhile and as they were setting up I knew they were going to be great. Michael the promoter/ DJ was playing some great 70's L.A. Punk vibe. Deadbeats finally hit the stage with the sax player whaling out some wild James's Chance on his sax.

A very arty wild intro. Scott came onstage as a demented Chef-Boyardee. They tore through Brainless and them Maria. They played like it was 1978, but better. Scott then told the story behind "Dull" their next song. The Deadbeats didn't miss a beat as they went through their Jazzy, Late 70's L.A. Classic Punk set.

At one point someone yells "R&R" as Scott responds by saying "R&R" you must be here to see someone else. It was very interesting when they went into Shutdown by the Germs ( whom Rik L. Rik wrote for Darby Crash) The Deadbeats took it to another dimension. They ended with Final Ride. A very underrated band.

The very great Saccharine Trust was next. Joe & Jack are still excellent as a team. They played all the old classic's ( Freedom, We became snakes, etc.) and did a great set. Joe Baiza is one of the best guitarist in the L.A. scene , and once he proved it with tonight's performance.

Another great Part Time Punks Sunday evening show put on by Michael at the Echo.
