Old Man Markley – The Iron Outlaws – Kenny Reeves and The Clones – at B Ryder’s – Bakersfield, CA

August 3, 2012

B Ryder's hosted another great show last Friday. With a new stage and lighting set up, B Ryder's has quickly made themselves a name in Bakersfield as a premier venue to catch great concerts. Old Man Markley teamed up with Bakersfield locals, The Iron Outlaws and Kenny Reeves and The Clones for a night of fun.

Newcomers to The Bakersfield music scene Kenny Reeves and The Clones made a great impression as they opened up the night. Their performance was a eclectic mixture of Indie Rock and Americana Folk. They put on an energetic set with catchy melodies that apparently caught the eye of OMM, as they were asked to join them for their show in Downtown SLO a couple of days later.

I have always thought that The Iron Outlaws would be a great band to fit a bill with Old Man Markley, tonight  I was finally able to see the two bands share a stage! The Iron Outlaws opened their set with "Take It Or Leave It", the crowd seated at the tables around the stage instantly shifted their attention. They played crowd favorites such as "Angels Call", "30 Days", and "The Weather". Danny added some spice to his set by incorporating a harmonica at times.

Old Man Markley took finally took the stage. For the first time of the evening the audience finally got off their asses. Seems like maybe they were just saving their energy for the more than an hour of dancing they would ensue during OMM's set. As expected with Bakersfield's history in country music, Old Man Markley was well received by the crowd. Why this was their first time playing in Bakersfield, no one knows, however I get the feeling after the response they were met with, they will be returning on a regular basis. The crowd knew the songs as OMM powered through classics and even performed some of their new material.

Their set was tight. Everyone in the band plays in perfect sync with one another, you get the feeling watching these guys, that they aren't just a band but a family.

Over all the night was a lot of fun. A truly solid line-up, not only was I introduced to a great new band, I also got to see two of my favorite Cow-Punk bands play in the same night. If your a fan of Fat Wreck Chords' Old Man Markley, then definitely keep an eye out for The Iron Outlaws and Kenny Reeves and The Clones (Kenny Reeves and The Clones will actually be changing their name to Woodrow in the near future)
