Brigitte Handley & The Dark Shadows – at The Juke Joint – Anaheim, CA
June 12, 2009
You wonder why a band of this quality isn’t playing a larger venue with a bigger audience.
Brigitte Handley & the Dark Shadows are from Sydney Australia but that is not the extent of their charm. A three piece all girl band, their sound is far better live, entwined with elements of Punk, Pop, and RockaBilly. The combination of Nerida hammering away at the drums with the enthusiasm of the Tazmanian Devil , and Carly’s masterfully sublime bass lines, eloquently supply the backbone for Briggitte to unleash her powerful presence on guitar along with her rich vocals. Their set consisted of the very catchy & menacing, Dave Likes dolls, Stand off, Identity, Mad at You plus many more rocking tracks & they did an electrifying rendition of Devo’s Freedom of choice.
These girls explode onto the stage with passion and deliver a lively and moody mix of great tunes. It would be good to see this band back in So Cal at bigger venue and when they do come back, dont miss it!
