Big Hand with Peg and The Bouffants at Cafe Drummonds – Aberdeen, UK

January 23, 2009

Peg and the Bouffants were formed in early 2007 by Janine and Kristy, two best mates from Dryburgh in Dundee who bonded over a love of music and writing songs.

With a growing fan base, a reputation as an excellent live act and with a set of catchy, up beat tunes under their belts peg and the Bouffants are not to be missed! They did a highly entertaining version of salt and peppers push it..and at one point was joined by a load of there fans on stage.

Big Hand are one of the most hard working bands out there, they travel the length and breadth of the UK to play gigs.

They do all their own songs, each of which was very well played. It would be generally described as Ska but had influences of rock, reggae and all sorts! Even though they were only a 4 piece band they filled the venue with energy, the trumpet player especially bounding enthusiastically around the stage. Keep an eye out for these guys! The band consists of: Phil, trumpet - Tim guitar, lead vocals - Paul, drums, lead vocals - Luke bass. They played a Ska version of ice ice baby  and were joined on stage by  Janine and Kristy of Peg and the Bouffants. During shows Luke and Phil both wander around the crowd playing there instruments.

The last song of the evening self titled big hand has a  slow beat, Paul asks the crowd how low they can dance and everyone in the venue is almost sitting on the floor including the band, when the music hits the fastest point all the crowd jump up and dance away till the end.

Big Hand have shared stages with the likes of Feeder, Reel Big Fish, The Cat Empire, The Beat, The Automatic, The Sunshine Underground, The Herbilizer, Mum-ra, Neville Staples, The Selector, The Mad Caddies, Bad Manners, Nizlopi, Frankie miller, the Bhundu boys, The Slackers, The Fat Cats, The Toasters, St. Petersburg brass quartet, Hayseed Dixie and Joe Walsh (the eagles), as well as playing legendary venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe including: the Astoria (London), The Cavern Club (Liverpool), The Trojan sound system at Notting Hill carnival (London), the Barrowlands (Glasgow) and Princes Street Gardens Edinburgh.
