Adolescents – at The Casbah – San Diego, CA

January 30, 2009

On Saturday night the Adolescents played at the Casbah, a San Diego bar with a unique dynamic- while it caters to Punk crowds and fans of rock music in general, it is also a popular bar for gay men. Over the years it has changed locations a few times, but the current location seems to work out well. Walking from the car to the venue we navigated our way around a bum who was laying on the sidewalk in a sleeping bag. At first it seemed like he was engaging in a conversation with himself- a favorite pastime of bums world wide, but upon closer examination we found out that he was actually talking on his cell phone.

The Adolescents appeared on stage at around 11:00 and after tuning and sound checking the microphones it looked like they were about to go on, but vocalist Tony Cadena was not on stage with the rest of the band. After a few minutes it was clear that he had gone missing in action despite the fact that he been seen around the venue all night. He showed up roughly a half an hour later and as usual the band opened with "No Way." The rest of the set was a mixed bag of material from the Blue Album, "OC Confidential," "Welcome to Reality," and "Brats In Battalions." The lineup for the night included Joe, the nineteen year old former guitarist for Wrecking Crew (not to be confused with the infamous late 80's Boston hardcore outfit) and original members, Cadena and Steve Soto.
