Swingin Utters Preview – at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA on July 30, 2010

July 10, 2010

Swingin UttersSince the late 1980's, Swingin Utters have been widely known as the torchbearers of modern American working class street Punk. The band, who are sometimes typeset as $wingin Utter$, began in Santa Cruz, California, however they have relocated to San Francisco. The Utters started out with a "first-name-only-lineup" which included Johnny as vocals, guitarists Max and Darius, bassist Kevin, and drummer Greg. The band recorded and tested out different record labels, such as Side One, IFA Records, and New Red Archives; they released "Scared" in 1992 under the name Johnny Peebucks & the Swingin Utters, however things did not pick up for the band until 1995 with their full-length album, "Streets of San Francisco". With the release of this album, the Utters found themselves winning Best Debut Album at the Bay Area Music Awards and were included on the first annual Vans Warped Tour. After touring with Rancid, the band found the record label they would stay with: Fat Wreck Chords, and released "A Juvenile Product of the Working Class" in 1996 and "Five Lessons Learned" two years later.

Around the same time the band's popularity was heightening, the guys contributed to the BYO Split Series alongside Youth Brigade; the Utters have also recorded splits with AFI, Slip, and the UK Subs throughout the years. In 2000, "Swingin' Utters' was released and national tours with the Damned and the Dropkick Murphys further raised the band's popularity within the Punk community. Two years later in February 2003 , "Dead Flowers, Bottles, Bluegrass, and Bones" was put out and in 2004, their first live album, "Live in a Dive" became available to fans. Awhile later in 2008, the band released "Hatest Grits: B-Sides and Bullshit", which includes collection of rare 7” singles, b-sides, album outtakes,  compilation songs & covers, along with 9 unreleased tracks. The compilation also provides fans with notes on each song from members of the band, past and present. After playing a variety of shows throughout California in 2009, performing at the 2010 Punk Rock Bowling, and select dates on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour, the Swingin Utters will release "Here, Under Protest" later this year under Fat Wreck Chords. The Utters will also be playing a chain of shows in California throughout July. Make sure not to miss these Punk legends when they hit the stage in your area later this month; you won't regret it.
