Street Dogs Preview – at The El Rey Theater in Los Angeles, CA on October 9, 2010

September 21, 2010

Street DogsIn 1998 Mike McColgan, frontman for the Dropkick Murphys, devastated the punk world when he announced the band was breaking up so he could pursue his life-long dream of becoming a fire fighter. Luckily for us, it didn't stick. The pull of the stage was too strong for Mike to walk away, and so in 2002 with Johnny Rioux formerly of the Bruisers, The Street Dogs were born.

The future wasn't set. According to the band, the release party for "Savin Hill", the first record which bore the name of McColgan's home neighborhood, was supposed to be a one-off. There's an old saying though that the best way to make god laugh is to tell him your plans. The venue sold out, with lines stretching around the block, the album came out on Crosscheck Records, and The Street Dogs were booked to support Flogging Molly on an upcoming tour.

And the crowds loved them so much, that during a tour, in a late night truck stop McColgan and Rioux agreed to go full time with the band. Three more albums followed from 2005 in quick succession, and the band toured with everyone from the Pogues to Bad Religion, before finally headlining their own tour in 2006.

The Street Dogs perhaps belong to the fans more than any other band, as sheer adulation and support changed a little messing around to a household name for true Punk fans. And now The Street Dogs have announced the release of their fifth studio album for August 31, followed by a full US tour, including dates with Sick of It All, and Flatfoot 56. The album is sure to be another successful chapter in what has been 8 years of Punk rock anthems, strident political songs, and rousing drinking numbers, and their live shows throughout the years have continued to be the benchmark for live performances.

So don't miss McColgan's frenetic stage presence (if you do, there'll be no one to catch him when he stage dives), or the joy and sonic fury of the rest of the band. Tour dates can be found on their official website as they are confirmed here: www.street-dogs.com, and The Street Dogs are set to roll into Los Angeles October 9th at The El Rey.
