Show Preview: Tomahawk with Retox – at The Mayan Theatre – Los Angeles, CA – February 19, 2013

February 12, 2013

Tomahawk, is back after a six year hiatus and ready for you to share in their newly discovered truths and untruths which come to us in the form of their new album entitled Oddfellows.

Tomahawk is an experimental metal/rock supergroup that regularly pushes the boundaries of musical composition and performance. The band is made up of Duane Denison (the Jesus Lizard, Unsemble, etc), Mike Patton (Faith No More, Fantômas, etc) & John Stanier (Helmet, Battles, etc) and this time around joined by Trevor “field mouse” Dunn ( Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, etc). The new album Oddfellows was recorded at Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye studios in Nashville, TN with Collin Dupuis in mid-2012.

The result of this union is music that will both floor you and haunt you at the same time. The Tomahawk experience is both a rare and elusive one that doesn’t come around very often. It’s a cultural blessing to say the very least and causes the band to have a passionately loyal following. They’re music is both spooky and driving and leaves you with a titillation you may not be familiar with, but will crave from that moment on.

Opening the show at the Mayan for Tomahawk is the native SoCal band Retox. They’re an eclectic combination of Sci-fi/Surf/Punk mixed with Post-Punk/Hardcore/Power Violence. Their songs are short, loud and inspired from both horrific misfortune and sheer imagination. A combination that will surely wake the crowd up for the main course of the evening.

Tomahawk doesn’t rear it’s collective head very often and isn’t playing many shows in the U.S. They have stated that this isn’t a reunion, but that Rock and Roll will be saved and destroyed. Do yourself a favor if you’re in Los Angeles on February 19th, 2013 and make your way to the Mayan Theater in DTLA to see a band who’s live performance you will remember for a lifetime.
