Show Preview: The Residents at The El Rey Theater - Los Angeles, CA - February 25, 2013Avant Garde music pioneers The Residents are on the road for their “Wonder Of Weird 40th Anniversary Tour” and will be playing The El Rey Theatre coming up. The Residents have recently dropped their anonymity and Randy, Chuck and Bob armed with keyboards, laptop and vocals will be playing as stripped down power trio. With over 60 albums released, the band will be playing classic material spanning 4 decades.

Throughout the group's existence, the individual members have ostensibly attempted to operate under anonymity preferring, instead, to have attention focused on their art output. Much outside speculation and rumour has focused on this aspect of the group. In public, the group appears silent and costumed, often wearing eyeball helmets, top hats and tuxedos—a long-lasting costume now recognized as its signature iconography. Their albums generally fall into two categories: deconstructions of Western popular music, or complex conceptual pieces, composed around a theme, theory or plot. The group is noted for surrealistic lyrics and sound, disregard for conventional music composition, and the over the top, theatrical spectacle of their live performances. If you are a fan music that is very outside the realm of predictability, then this is a show you will want to check out.

The Residents recently announced the release of their Ultimate Box Set. It became available Christmas Day for $100,000. The box set is packaged in a refrigerator and contains releases covering The Residents entire career. The Ultimate Box Set includes 100 different products such as 40 vinyl LPs, 50 CDs, and dozens of singles, EPs, DVDs, and CD-roms and more. Everything included is an original first pressing. Each box set also contains one of The Residents' signature eyeball-with-top-hat masks. Only 10 box sets will be sold. Since most fans will be unable to purchase The Residents Ultimate Box Set, I suggest getting tickets right away for what will certainly be an amazing show from this truly original band.
