*** Postponed *** Iggy Pop and The Stooges Show Preview: at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, CA on September 7, 2011

May 9, 2011

Iggy Pop and The StoogesOne of the most talked about reunions in recent rock history is taking place once again in our very own neck of the woods. Yes that’s right; Iggy and his stooges are coming back to Los Angeles to melt the faces off fans of all ages this summer at the Hollywood Palladium. Iggy and The Stooges played to a sold out crowd at the Wiltern Theater 4 years ago back in 2007, and have left Los Angeles yearning for more of their nasty raw Rock and Roll flavor since. Thankfully the second coming of the Stooges would not be a one time occurrence; this upcoming show is sure to be the concert of the summer that everyone will be talking about for months to come.

Mostly known as a solo artist who rose to prominence in the mid 70’s and 80s, Iggy Pop had his humble beginnings fronting the Stooges from 1967 to 1974. During their first run, The Stooges would release 3 albums that fundamentally shaped the American garage, Punk and alternative rock movement. The Stooges’ rough around the edges and often dirty sounding recordings became the basis of which underground bands would generally strive to mimic. Their live show as a band is what really sealed their place as a stand out act, often becoming somewhat of a shocking display of live musical art. Iggy’s stage antics have been seen as very controversial over the years, but more so influential seeing as every shock rock artist since has been indebted to The Stooges.

Their debut album simply titled The Stooges released back in 1969 was a pivotal mark in American rock music, though it wasn’t till 1970’s Fun House that The Stooges really found their live success. Being the loudest album ever recorded, Fun House still to this day is regarded as a top album of the decade. Their 3rd and final release Raw Power is their best known work of art. Produced by the genius minded David Bowie, Raw Power saw the band at their prime, creating an album that spawned the hit’s Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger, and Your Pretty Face is going to Hell. This would be their best remembered work and ultimately the album they toured in support of until the bands demise. The rest of their band would go in different directions, none more prolific than Iggy Pop’s solo career, as a writing partner of David Bowies; the two artists would see very successful decades in the music industry. (Iggy co wrote the massively successful hit China Girl along with David Bowie, released both on Pop’s 1977 album The Idiot and Bowies 1983 album Let’s Dance.) Iggy’s solo albums Kill City, Lust For Life and The Idiot are also worth mentioning and picking up if you already haven’t!

A Stooges reunion earlier in the new millennium was met with much success critically and at box offices around the world seeing the band play stages in many different countries. Sadly founding member and guitarist Ron Asheton would pass away just shy of the bands induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Having now been inducted (Class of 2010), Iggy and The Stooges are hitting the road once again and aiming to hit LA later this summer. Expect every Stooges song you’ve grown to love over the years to be played alongside some Iggy solo jams thrown in for good mix. This is a show you won’t want to miss by any means!

Tickets are now on sale ($39.50 each) and are guaranteed to sell out quick, get em while you can! Show starts at 7:00 pm, Bigwheel will see you there!
