Dalmane For Sale

September 30, 2010

Frontier Records Dalmane For Sale, In 1980 Lisa Fancher founded Frontier Records and within the first few years of the labels existence she released several of the most significant and well regarded records in the history of Hardcore Punk. Some titles from the label that you might recognize include The Adolescents' self titled "Blue Album," the first Suicidal Tendencies record, Circle Jerks' "Group Sex," TSOL's "Dance With Me, Canada, mexico, india, "China White's "Dangerzone" and Christian Death's "Only Theatre Of Pain." With Frontier reaching its 30th year as a label, they will be celebrating with a show of epic proportions in Los Angeles, featuring the Adolescents, Rikk Agnew, the Pontiac Brothers, and reunion performances by Flyboys and the legendary Middle Class, 1000mg, 2000mg. Lisa was kind enough to spend some time with us and it really felt like she held back nothing during our interview.

How did you select the lineup for the big anniversary gig that is coming up?

Honestly I asked everyone that was still alive. 0.4mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 2.5mg, There's various reasons that various bands couldn't or wouldn't play. Some members hadn't played instruments in years, some live in different states or countries, Dalmane For Sale. Most of the Punk bands still seem to be at it so being that the label is known for vintage Punk, it's good we got the vintage Punk bands on there. Mostly.

One of the bands playing the show are the Flyboys and their record was also Frontier's first release. What drew you to this band initially?

I really loved the Crayon World single (also reissued on Frontier as a ltd edition) and interviewed them for the LA Herald Examiner when I wrote for it. I dug that they were somewhere between the first wave of Punk (Weirdos, Where can i buy Dalmane online, X et al) and Hardcore. Dalmane For Sale, They had a real cool look and played vintage guitar, good melodic songs. Oh yeah and I liked the outsiderdom that they were from the Pasadena area. Maybe not an obvious first pick but it worked for me.

As an interesting side note, on the credits of The Flyboys record it says thanks to Earle Mankey's garage, purchase Dalmane online no prescription, did you know that Earle also worked English band, The Adicts on a couple of their recent records. Was who the producers were on these records important to you in deciding on the bands you had on Frontier?

I did not know that Earle worked with the Adicts but that makes sense. Producers were very important to me, Detroit, Michigan, San Jose, California, I wanted the records to sound as good as they could on an extremely tight, low budget recording schedule. Whoever was going to do one of my records had to be easy to get along with and most of all FAST, Dalmane For Sale. Earle's a freakin' genius, I haven't worked with him since Sacrilicious but I love that guy. Guys with home studios are just the best, they so totally get it.

I used some spectacularly cool producers like Thom Wilson on a few records and a couple of name ones that cost "real" money, buy Dalmane without a prescription. I wouldn't do anything like the latter again, every second was torture and we spent more negotiating the contract with lawyers that we ever made back. Leave that crap to the majors!

What is your favorite release that Frontier has put out over the years?

Not that I have any but asking me that is like asking what your favorite child is. Dalmane For Sale, They're all my fave. It's easier to ask me which one I like the least but that wouldn't be nice. Tell you at the Frontier show. I am very very proud that I put out virtually the entire recorded career of Thin White Rope, someday everyone will know of their godliness.

Putting out both Circle Jerks and Adolescents, you spent time with both of those bands, what was it like trying to get an album out with them, were there moments in the course of working with them that just stick in you mind like it was yesterday?

The Group Sex album was finished and I bought it from the band so there's really no memories there. Fort Worth, Texas. Denver, Colorado, Only memories of putting the artwork together. And what hell it was to scrape up enough money to press enough copies to fulfill the initial orders!

But how did you know, Dalmane For Sale. I can remember almost every step of the way making the Adolescents LP. While I was working at Bomp records I sorted out the details with Frank Agnew. Then I booked the studio time at a super fancy studio in Sun Valley CA that I got for almost nothing (thank god for hard time in the music biz). Then they made the record in three days. Dalmane For Sale, Total sleep deprivation. And they stayed at this horrible murder motel that my friend's dad owned, El Paso, Texas. Washington, D.C. Seattle, Washington. The songs were so great, I really knew that I had something there the second that it was done.

When you got started 30 years ago, Where can i order Dalmane without prescription, did you ever think that this music would still be around and relevant?...What was your general out look on the future at those moments back in the 80's.

No. Honestly it was just something to do like putting out another fanzine. I figured it was time to take it to the next level, putting my money where my mouth is in terms of bands that I liked and actually making records instead of just writing rave reviews in other people's papers.

And even though some of them sold pretty well when they were released, I never DREAMED people would still be buying them. Seriously, Dalmane For Sale. Being a record collector, Austin, Texas, Memphis, Tennessee, I almost hoped they would all be super obscure and highly sought after. Alas over half of them have been in print the whole time since they've been released, even on vinyl. Oh well.

What was your relationship like with other Punk labels in the early 1980's such as Posh Boy and Slash?

I knew lots of people that worked at Slash over the years but they were just massive compared to Frontier. They've put out some amazing LA product for sure, just the Germs album alone is enough to make them hallowed.

Robbie Fields, Posh Boy, and I pretty much hated each other from day one, 125mg, 150mg, 200mg, 250mg. Dalmane For Sale, I loved getting in huge fights with him in public, we got in so many screaming wars at the Starwood. He always said I stole all his bands but that just wasn't true, after they worked with him on either Beach Blvd or Rodney on the ROQ, they didn't want to work with him again. (This is well detailed in Left of the Dial fanzine where I had Tony Cadena finally set the record straight that I didn't "steal" the Adolescents.) I actually like and respect Robbie despite our checkered history but I wouldn't mind yelling at him in public some more. Where can i find Dalmane online, That was fun.

Were there any bands that you wished that you could have signed but never got a chance to?

The Pixies, I can't even tell the story any more, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Las Vegas, Nevada. Okay, I'll give you the Reader's Digest version. I was the first person from a label to ever see them, Dalmane For Sale. Phast Phreddie toured with the Plimsouls and gave me their demo tape when he got back to L.A. It was the thing I ever heard and I flew to Boston to se them at TT the Bears. Dalmane snort, alcohol iteraction, They were adamant about getting a record out in Sept 1987 and I had already committed my employees and all $$ resources to American Music Club's Engine and Flying Color's debut. They released an EP on Rough Trade and. Dalmane For Sale, the rest is history. Losing them ate my soul for a long time but I'm glad they became an international success, that proved I was right even if I couldn't take them on.

Are there any records that in retrospect you wish that you had put out on Frontier?

If I put out Jawbreaker's Unfun I would be the happiest girl in the whole wide world, Baltimore, Maryland. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Love that band so much.

The covers for of some of your early releases- particularly the first Adolescents album and the Circle Jerks' "Group Sex" really have become iconic pieces of graphic art that almost transcend the albums themselves. How did you go about establishing this aesthetic. Buy Dalmane no prescription, Also how did you become acquainted with photographers like Edward Colver and Glen E. Friedman?

Thanks for noticing, Dalmane For Sale. When I set about starting the label, I knew that the album covers had to be as good as the music. Being a record collector from birth, I spent many an hour staring at covers and obsessing on every little thing. I did let the bands come up with the concept, online buying Dalmane, then I spent a lot of time with the artist, Diane Zincavage, making sure it was really eye catching and bold. She was completely on my wave length though I did drive her insane at the same time.

When Edward Colver found out I was releasing Group Sex, Farmacia Dalmane baratos, Dalmane online kaufen, he found me. Dalmane For Sale, Somehow. He'd taken those amazing photos at the skatepark and we liked how it just looked like a field of humans. Diane came up with the idea of making it high contrast and coloring them with primary colors. I like to think those album covers were so rad they made people just pick them up and head to the cash register even if they didn't know what it was!

I knew Glen E. Friedman from his work at Thrasher of course. I can't remember how he came to do the Adolescents' record photos, I think I sent him to a Starwood show, Dalmane For Sale. Or maybe he took them at the Starwood, buy Dalmane online cod, then made me a proof sheet and we loved them. Glen was straight edge so he probably remembers it perfectly. Of course Glen has a special place in Frontier history for bringing me Suicidal Tendencies and taking those iconic photos, as well as producing the record and putting the video together. Dalmane withdrawal, His contributions to their success were invaluable, never would have happened without GEF.

Distributing music today with the use of the internet, downloading and CD's seems like the fastest easier way to go, what was it like for you back then to get the music out to the stores and in the hands of the fans?

It was very hit or miss, San Diego, California. Dallas, Texas. San Antonio, Texas, believe me. Dalmane For Sale, We were dependent on fanzines, touring, college radio and retail clerks to support our cause. And it was a great delivery method of a long, long time. Then it got co-opted by the major labels and we got muscled aside because everyone loved their ad dollars and being flown to CMJ for free, Acheter en ligne Dalmane, acheter Dalmane bon marché, etc.

It was fun too though, in the early early days I drove the records around to Rhino, Zed, Moby Disc etc in my car trunk. They needed to have them for the weekend so I made sure I wasn't working at either Bomp. or Vinyl Fetish so I could schlep  them all over the city, buy no prescription Dalmane online. Fun, Dalmane For Sale. What is definitely not fun is when your distributor goes bankrupt and there goes all of your money. I can't even tell you how many times this has happened to me in 30 years, the most recently in spring 2009 when Lumberjack when kaput. Who needs this shit after all this time???

"If" the internet had existed back in 1980 with all its capabilities, how do you feel that this would have shaped Punk music?

It would have put people easily in touch with records they may have heard or read about which is really nice, this new instant gratification. When I was first buying records I'd buy things mailorder after I read about it in PRM or Creem or Punk magazine so I kind of like the delayed gratification aspect too.

BUT if everyone could download my albums for free in the '80s -like they can now-- there would be Frontier right now. Dalmane For Sale, I know it's easy to steal, people, but that doesn't make it right. If there wasn't still Frontier vinyl that kids want to buy, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Phoenix, Arizona, I wonder if we would even exist. I always tried to be cool in terms of list price for physical product and download deals but people simply don't want to pay for music now. Or even live music. Of course things will always change and become easier to access but that doesn't mean it makes it any fun anymore. People feel like they've "seen" a band if they see them on youtube or a streaming concert, this makes me sad.

One of the greatest things about being a music fan is getting out there and being with other music fans, not discussing stuff with them on internet discussion forums, Dalmane For Sale. Order Dalmane online c.o.d, How are there going to be new genius bands and scenes forming if everyone's inside in front of their computer. Sorry to sound like Thomas Edison but it depresses me sometimes.

What is your involvement with Punk Rock in 2010?

Being a fan. Hoping to release more product as soon as the economy treats me right.

In the past few years you have released collections from the Middle Class and Eddie and the Subtitles. Do you have plans to release any more similar gems?

Yes. Dalmane For Sale, I will release the Stains LP that was on SST. I will release YES LA and try to make it as close to the original as possible. And hopefully more things like that that I don't even know about yet!

How are things for you personally, you happy, what do you like to do for fun to escape from reality of the music business?

It's hard to be happy when the cupboards are bare but I manage, thanks for asking. I've been making a documentary with my friend John Roecker for years, Nashville-Davidson, Tennessee. Portland, Oregon, it will be recognized as the greatest film ever made as soon as we finish it. Not even kidding. I also spend a huge portion of my life in service to the West Memphis Free, Dalmane For Sale. I wouldn't call this "fun" exactly but it's the finest thing that I do. In fact I have to finish these questions early because I'm flying to Arkansas to go to a hearing in the Arkansas Supreme Court for Damien Echols. Comprar en línea Dalmane, comprar Dalmane baratos, Unjust convictions are everyone's business, especially when they involved the death penalty. The only writing I do these days is for the wm3.org blog spot so check me out there, I'll be writing updates from now until these guys get out of prison!

Hey, thanks Lisa for spending some time with us and some great insights, see you at the show.
