Victorian Halls – self-released EP – Springteen

February 13, 2009

Victorian Halls EP imageIndie music keeps its face interesting by constantly issuing out bands with a certain look and a certain sound that captivates us and keeps us interested. Whether it's a specific look, or specific sound, we usually know what to expect when "Indie" is thrown around. Victorian Halls IS NOTHING AT ALL THAT WAY OR WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT... EVER. Indie music has thrown a curve ball, and a pretty fierce one through the type of music Victorian Halls present in their self-released EP, "Springteen". "Springteen" is certainly nothing you've ever heard before, or maybe a twisted combination of absolutely everything you've ever heard. Whatever it is, you're definitely in for a ride.

Victorian Halls have a peculiar sound, a magnificently strange and peculiar sound that you can only describe as the clash of music itself perhaps. "Springteen" is a masterpiece of everything odd, and everything is intermingled in the EP from Power Pop, to Garage Rock, to Theatrics; the combination of every influence is essentially, "Springteen". Amid the spontaneity of the music itself and the screaming, the calming factors of a piano bring everything together perfectly. Think of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" and the hauntingly enchanting psychedelic trip of its songs. Now think of a Pre-School filled with 10 different kids running around, some screaming, some banging toys together, each an instrument in the combined orchestra of Pre-School mania. The combination of both examples is probably the best way to explain the unique sound of Victorian Halls.

The EP contains 7 songs, but the songs are long enough to give you the effect of a full lenght album. If your music collection has grown redundant and rather boring, this is an EP that will change your collection and blow your mind. If you've ever wondered what would happen if Theatrical music got in a fight with the allied forces of Indie, Pop, and Rock, this is an example of the spectacle. A beautiful and mind blowing spectacle.
