Ultra Violence – Brick Rain
September 1, 2010
The first half of this C.D. is made up of new recordings of old Ultra Violence songs and the second half presents the old, more raw and lo- fi recordings that the band did in the 1980′s. Ultra Violence definitely had the New York mosh thing going on and it’s not hard at all to picture these guys sharing bills with Agnostic Front or The Mob while gnarly skinheads bashed each others heads in on the dance floor.
However Ultra Violence also remind me quite a bit of early D.R.I. and it’s also not hard to imagine that they did well with the Crossover crowd. The newer recordings are more polished and easier on the ears but don’t quite capture the energy that the band had when they were younger. Putting both versions of the songs is actually a pretty good way to give a full picture of what the band had or has to offer. This is some good stuff and any fan of New York Hardcore should be pretty satisfied.
