Thought Crusade – It’s Our War

December 11, 2009

Thought Crusade recordAlthough Thought Crusade's name presumably comes from No For An Answer's album bearing the same title, their sound is much more tuneful and melodic than any music that the mighty NFAA ever put out. The intense fast paced delivery of the songs on "It's Our War" hold more of a musical resemblance to Beyond or Verbal Assault. Throw in some Dag Nasty esque parts and you'll get an idea of where Thought Crusade are coming from. The songs on this record are strong, energetic, and well thought out. Thought Crusade definitely possess a maturity in their song writing- in terms of both the music and words, that is rare in hardcore, particularly in the twenty first century.

The first side of "It's Our War" is definitely solid, with "All Talk" being the stand out track. However the second side is even more phenomenal. "Tightrope" starts out with an intense intro with heavy echo/reverb on the vocals before breaking into a good fast part that avoids coming off as thrashy or sloppy. Then the song has a few curve balls packed into it including some great melodic vocals with double vocal tracking. "Bleak Reality" is an equally superb song.

With this being Thought Crusade's second seven inch it begs for questions about when they will record a full length to be asked. This may very well be the best hardcore seven inch of 2009.
