The Rippers – Ground Zero

June 2, 2010

The Rippers - Ground Zero reviewIn Tulsa, Oklahoma, an area not known to be heavily populated with Punk music, The Rippers rose to the challenge and succeeded in creating "Ground Zero". Their full length album, released on Safety Pin Records, will provide street Punk music enthusiasts with a sense of bliss; all twelve tracks on the disc contain high-velocity instrumentals and vocals, as well as staying consistent with Punk themes such as society's faults, the game of life, and of course politics (especially war). Their passion for these topics are evident through songs such as "Working Class Society", "Soldiers of Misfortune", "Nuclear Winter" and "Warfare Streets" and are sure to satisfy even the pickiest of Punk buffs.

The album begins with a burst of adrenaline with "Intro New 82", a track that foreshadows "Ground Zero" as a whole and may remind fans of the veteran Punk band Cheap Sex, due to the rip-roaring mechanics and raspy, raw voice that vocalist Sean portrays. The record ventures into a deeper, more somber tone with the tunes "Game of Change", "Tonight", and "True Patriots", yet fulfills the Punk rock nature and melody that keeps listeners wanting more. The Rippers generously grant that wish by finishing off the album with "Lost Generation", "Violence" and "The Wastes".Through "Ground Zero", The Rippers have proven to be everything that Punk music aspires to be- loud, fast, energetic, and socially aware, stacking up nicely to their hardcore, modern-day contemporaries.
