The Bayonettes – Guilty Pleasure

April 16, 2010

The Bayonettes - Guilty Pleasure record reviewThis posthumous single is the last installment to the Bayonettes discography and with two songs it ends all too quick. Their sound lay somewhere between the poppy New Wave of the Go Go's and the dark, melodic Punk of the Avengers and these two tracks are right up there with some of the bands' best stuff. "Guilty Pleasures" takes up side A and is reminiscent of "Hungry For You" off of the "We're Doomed" 7". It has a strong hook and as soon as it's done you feel like you need to hear it again. "Outta My Mind" has some keyboards added and the band manages to handle it without being too cheesy. It doesn't hurt that the edgey vocals help to offset any potential cuteness to the  song. Apparently this record was supposed to be released for the bands' final tour in 2008 but is now just finally making it onto shelves with just three hundred copies being pressed. I believe that The Bayonettes only put out three 7" records (if anyone knows of anything else drop me a line) and in a way this record only serves to torment those of us who never got a chance to see this Toronto based band.
