Street Dogs – Self Titled Album
August 26, 2010
Since the Street Dogs made their debut with the "Savin Hill" album they have shown themselves as a reliable band who never leads their fans astray. The band’s resume speaks for itself, having toured with the Adolescents and featuring former Dropkick Murphys vocalist Mike McColgan fronting the group. The Street Dogs’ self titled album keeps to the traditions of their previous releases- catchy Street Punk tunes about fun, family, friends and nostalgic odes to the Boston neighborhood that the guys in the band grew up in. There are some subtle Irish influences in the songs here and there but for the most party this stuff is straight forward and rowdy Punk Rock.
Some highlights on "Street Dogs" include the reworking of "Fighter" that appeared originally on "Savin Hill" and the pro labor anthem, "Up The Union." "Ghosts" has a little bit of a Roots Rock feel without being cheesy. "10 Wood Rd." is a sort of Punk Rock ballad which eventually breaks into a faster tempo and the Street Dogs more than competently pulls off toning things down a bit when they need to. As a whole this album only reconfirms what we already knew- that the Street Dogs are a band that never lets down fans of old fashioned Punk Rock and they show no signs of letting up anytime soon.
Here is a great video to give you some background on the writing of this album
