Slang Chickens – My Floor EP

March 14, 2011

Slang Chickens - My Floor EP reviewSo Cal quartet Slang Chickens has composed a piping hot piece of southern-fried rock, dusted with Los Angeles sunshine in the form of their latest EP, My Floor.

Part Tom Petty, part They Might Be Giants, part Waylon Jennings and part Beach Boys; Slang Chickens make tunes that are as endearing as they are eclectic. The flock includes singer/guitarist Evan Weiss, drummer/percussionist/backing vocalist Dash Hutton, guitar/lapsteel player and backing vocalist Brandon Intelligator and bassist Michael Harris.

“My Floor” begs to be played with the windows down while driving on a warm, spring day. “Grandfathers Gun” sounds like a PSA for giving into one’s subversive desires, simply for the sake of doing it. “For now My Pain will Grow” has a 60’s pop rock feel, complete with back up dancers doing “the swim.”  “Never Been High” is a charming ballad and “Punk Rock Fantasy” is a lazy daydream lead by the harmonica, banjo and lapsteel. For fans of The Goodnight Loving, Julie the Band and Wake up Lucid, My Floor will delight your ears.
