Pins Of Light – II

May 21, 2012

Pins Of Light - III popped this disc in my stereo and was immediately taken to the 70’s where I imagine this band would visit in a time machine if possible. I say that with the best intentions as the vintage space rock feel of Hawkwind is apparent from start to finish here on II.

This isn’t your average punk release, this has that special something that really grabs you and doesn’t let go no matter how hard you may resist, the feel is truly unique. There is quite the variety here too which makes for an interesting listen no matter what side of the rock spectrum you may be coming from. I may not be an expert on space rock, crust or stoner rock, but this band is probably inspired by bands of the three above genres and takes quite a lot of inspiration when crafting their tunes. The killer artwork by Alan Forbes is also very fitting, it matches the bands sound and that too is quite nice for an album that’s as dark and bleak. It makes sense this record is out on Alternative Tentacles, a label that truly only puts out great releases from bands pushing the envelope. Get this album and play it under the influence of darkness, you’ll get it once you’re there!
