Murderer’s Row – Pissed and Punch Drunk

October 11, 2012

Murderer's Row - Pissed and Punch DrunkMurderer's Row, hailing from Troy, NY (yes, there's more to New York than the city) started playing as a band in 2000, and have toured with Ironcross, The Business, and Roger Miret and the Disasters. With former members of STIGMA, Dying Breed, and Wartime Manner, the musicians have proven themselves on the NYHC stage already.

Murderer's Row is not, however, a hardcore band. They describe themselves as "pissed off working class rock 'n roll" (presumably since Oi seems to be a dirty word now in America), but "Pissed and Punch Drunk", the band's newest album released this past July, has a complexity and blend of styles that makes such a simple classification difficult. "Die With My Boots On" has an unmistakable rockabilly blues swagger, "Workin' Man" has an AC/DC hard rock flavor, and "Watch Me Fall" makes the band's hardcore pedigree obvious.

"Pissed and Punch Drunk" is 20 tracks mostly about drinking, being drunk, working to drink, and wanting to drink. It might not be novel subject matter, but it's certainly popular, and this album is worth checking out for any fans of American Oi, hard rock, or anything else focused on the "boys will be boys (with a drink in their hand)" mentality.
