Chuck Ragan – Gold Country

Chuck Ragan has been on the radar for a number of years, perhaps the first introduction we had to him is when our photographer photographed him on the wildly popular radio show, Complete Control Radio where he was the first to perform live on the show. Many will know Chuck from Hot Water Music and with his solo performances, it just further demonstrates his versatility because he plays everything with his signature vocals, kinda like a folk/jazz version of Rikk Agnew’s “All By Myself” record.

His latest release Gold Country, out on Side One Dummy Records continues the trilogy of this road worn traveler through the joys as well as the trials and tribulations of life. The feelings sung through Chuck’s trademark raspy growl is very real and you feel you are in the same box car with him as he tells you his story. To dissect them up for the purpose of a review may infact skew the prospective that the listener should interpret on their own, so we will leave that up to you because each song has it’s own message and feel to it.

Chuck certainly continues to push the envelop with Gold Country. This record has a different feel/vibe than the previous two releases with more of a country style delivery while still maintaining the bluesy roots that Chuck Ragan fans love. This is the music of the working man and woman!
