Calabrese – Dayglo Necros

October 15, 2012

Calabrese - Dayglo NecrosDo you like horror punk? If you answer yes then you better be familiar with Calabrese, the trio of brothers from Arizona who raise hell in a way that’s reminiscent of a horror comic come to life.

Their newest album titled Dayglo Necros is like a horror comic set to music, music that is dark, catchy, aggressive, full of hooks, scary melodies and lyrics that portray images straight out of any B horror flick. Having seen Calabrese live but never owned a record of theirs I can say that this enjoyable album is a bit like their live show. Its not them reinventing the horror punk sound, though its not the same bag of tired tricks some bands tend to pull out every other year after a trip to the recording studio.

The vocal attack is strong and not forced like another bands attempt I reviewed earlier this year with a similar image. I feel Calabrese are more than just an image, and this record is proof enough that the 3 brothers are dead serious about the music they make and the songs they write. With tracks like Ghostwolves, Darkhold, Damned To The Night and Bring Us Hell and album opener The Dead Don’t Rise, this is the perfect new release just in time for the Halloween season. Much like a movie the albums inner sleeve contains a fold out poster that reads like a classic horror film advertisement, this band is on top of it fully. Calabrese hit the nail and hammer it straight into your skull with 13 tracks of terror. Pick up the new record and listen to it while you’re fixing to go out and kill tonight.
