Beat LA Compilation

When a catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, 230,000 people were killed and one million people were left without shelter and food. Since the 7.0 earthquake, many efforts have gone forth to help the people of Haiti recover and find stability. Although it has been almost two years since the deadly event, efforts prevail as a result of Haiti's inability to fully become restored. One of these efforts comes through a unique outlet via Narnack Records and Greatminds Records: a compilation album..

Both record labels have merged to bring a compilation album titled "Beat LA," which features underground bands from Los Angeles covering classic Los Angeles bands such as The Doors, X, The Germs, and more. Proceeds from the album go to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières, to further the efforts in Haiti.

"Beat LA" predominantly features alternative, experimental, and electro influenced bands covering classic bands from Los Angeles. Other independent artists also single-handedly cover songs, among the better known, Bobb Bruno of Best Coast. Thus, it is interesting to hear such artists covering bands like The Germs and Thelonious Monster. The entire album has a very raw DIY nature in that the styles and recordings of each song sound as though they've been freshly recorded, without the added sound adjustments done by excessive mixing. Anyone looking to kill two birds with one stone by making a musical purchase that augments the goals of a significant organization should look into checking out "Beat LA," now available via Narnack Records and Greatminds.
