8Kalacas – Self Titled

November 2, 2011

8Kalacas - Self TitledWhen people think of the skacore scene in Southern California, Los Angeles typically comes to mind as the city is known for having a large skacore following. Few bands from Orange County fall under the skacore genre,

yet from this limited amount, Anaheim natives 8Kalacas have made a name for themselves by performing with heavy contenders throughout Southern California. Recently, 8Kalacas furthered their presence in the skacore scene by finally releasing their first full-length album. The self-titled album includes music that ranges from tracks you'll want to dance to, to tracks you wanna smash stuff to. The dual variety in the album is immense..

The instruments in the album consist of guitar, bass, drums, trumpet, and an occasional trombone in a few select tracks, played by Joe Quiniones and Fernando Arredondo independently. The music in the album maintains variety by merging hardcore punk with ska; songs with fast beats and cacophonous vocals often intermingle the melodic nature of ska to bring a sound that is better described as a merge between Leftover Crack and Streetlight Manifesto, Mexican style. Most of the songs are in fact fast paced and possess a chaotic nature that is not typical in ska. The combination of punk's fast energy with ska's melodic presence ultimately delivers an album that is refreshing both to Orange County and the skacore scene.

The album is now available at Hollywood's Amoeba Records, Itunes, and through the band directly on Facebook and local shows.
