Record Store Day 2010 in Aberdeen, UK

April 17, 2010

One Up is Aberdeen’s independent record store which last year celebrated its 30th birthday. They specialize in independent releases and carry a good back catalogue of all kinds of music from Punk to Country. They also stock 7” and 12” singles and have great selection of second hand vinyl, CDs and DVDs. One up also stocks t-shirts and sells concert tickets.

One Up will always be special to me as I bought my first punk and reggae records there and t-shirts. It was a meeting place back in the day and I even worked there twice. Other indie record stores have come and gone but One Up remains the best in Aberdeen.

They try to help local bands by selling their CDs and doing in store playing. Today they were involved in ‘Record Store Day’, when various bands put out some limited releases for that day only. Steven Milne from local band Little Kicks was joined by some friends and played an acoustic set for about 30 minutes. There was a good crowd there to watch and support Record Store Day. It was good to see people come out and support the local scene.
