Circus of Horrors – St Valentines Massacre – at The Music Hall – Aberdeen, UK

Circus of Horrors is now in its 15th year and it was the first time I'd gone to see it, so really didn't know what to expect. The show was full of weird and wonderful acts. Some were definitely more weird than wonderful! The show started in St Remy Asylum in Paris in the year 1890. Dr Haze and the Interceptorsfrom hell were the house band and belted out an assortment of rock music while one of the asylum inmates was stretched, bent and contorted in various directions on a stretching table.

This was followed by a mixture of talented acts including high speed roller skaters, knife throwers, whip crackers and a woman who was being spun by her hair on the high wire.

Hannibal Helmerto is a sword swallower and has various piercings – at one point he hung a log of wood from his nose attached to a chain. He boasts there is more ink on his skin than blood running through his veins. His top two ribs have been deliberately broken (which he is happy enough to go into the crowd to let them feel them to prove it) so he can swallow a jagged edge sword

I started to feel sorry for the female performer who was bent backwards with a bow and arrow in her feet, aiming at a balloon on a target. Finally, after her 4th or 5th attempt, she managed to pop the balloon but I'd lost interest by then.

For me, and I'm sure for many others, the WEIRDEST part of the evening was when the fire-eating dwarf then decided to get his bits out. We had been warned there would be nudity but no-one would ever have guessed that meant a dwarf attaching a 3 stone bowling ball to his manhood and  swinging it around. And if this wasn't enough he then proceeded to attach his penis to a hoover and run around the stage as it sucked him!!

That image will haunt me everytime I get the hoover out now. One bad point of the evening was the sound it wasn’t as clear as it should have been and I heard loads of people saying they couldn't make out anything Dr Haze had said.
