Kevin Seconds – Kepi Ghoulie – Franz Nicolay – POPS – at Thee Parkside – San Francisco, CA

April 5, 2012

Darkside Party at Sacred GypsyForces joined at Thee Parkside April 5th to create an acoustic power house, courtesy of POPs, Franz Nicolay, Kepi Ghoulie, and Kevin Seconds.

POPs, which stands for "Pissed off Punks" put on a charming acoustic punk set with Americana influence. The quartet featuring Dave Dalton from Cell Block 5, showed great chemistry as they exchanged witty banter on stage. The clear crowd-favorite was the song, "Rock n' Roll Radio" where POPs borrowed from the Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop." Hey ho, let's go to the next act...

Franz Nicolay, of former The Hold Steady and World Inferno Friendship Society fame dabbled in vaudeville-esque instrumentals and sage advice all through out his set. Nicolay proved to be quite the musician, playing acoustic guitar, banjo, and accordion during his time on stage.

Kepi Ghoulie formerly of the legendary Pop-Punk band the Groovie Ghoulies, brought an entirely different aura to the stage, with a highly energetic set infused with child-like wonder. Kevin Seconds joined in on drums and Franz Nicolay on accordion. Kepi Ghoulie played a game of sorts where Nicolay would get his drink tickets if he performed Ghoulie's songs correctly on accordion.

Last but not least was Kevin Seconds. Known as the lead singer of 7 Seconds, he strays from his hardcore roots and plays poppy, acoustic Punk. With his embellished guitar and harmonica, he cranked out songs, one by one. Franz Nicolay made an appearance during the set on the accordion, and Kepi Ghoulie on drums.

All in all, collaborations were forged and musical chemistry was shown Thursday night at San Francisco's Thee Parkside.
