Show Preview: Jimmy Cliff – at The Santa Monica Pier – Santa Monica, CA – September 12, 2013

September 5, 2013

What a year it has been for the world of Reggae music, Saturday September 12th will merely add to that boast. Twilight Concert series, in its glorious summer tradition, is now in its 29th year. This installment will showcase the legendary and timeless Jimmy cliff on the beautiful and serene backdrop of the Santa Monica Pier.

The now 64 years young Jimmy Cliff has been adored and praised for generations, and rightly so. Coming off the Grammy award winning album “Rebirth”, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is in prime shape to tear the boardwalk down. Fans can expect gems spanning nearly six decades and endless dancing and all at the price of FREE!

Locals will no doubt notice a few familiar faces, as East Los very own Ska/Rocksteady sensation and SteadyBeat recording artists "The Delirians" will be providing the heavy dancing beat. No strangers to the big stage, The Delirians have done nothing but drop jaws and perk up ears since stomping their place amongst the top of Los Angeles’s thriving and very talented Reggae scene. They have earned the respect of iconic Jamaican artists and fans everywhere.

Early arrival is more than a suggestion, its damn near criminal if taken lightly. Things get under way at 7pm, so Reggae fans shine ya boots! We'll see you at the waterfront.

Show Preview: Peter Hook & The Light – At The Henry Fonda Theatre – Hollywood, CA September 21, 2013

September 5, 2013

Show Preview: Peter Hook & The Light - At The Henry Fonda Theatre - Hollywood, CA September 21, 2013The one and only Peter Hook is returning to the greater Los Angeles area this September with a very special show at the Henry Fonda Theatre. You may remember the last time he played LA, it was an all Joy Division set spread across two separate nights and was simply incredible.

It was the closest American audiences ever got to seeing Joy Division in the flesh and it was with out a doubt the ultimate experience for anybody who has ever loved “Unknown Pleasures”  and “Closer”.

Well, he’s doing it again, except for this time he is doing it New Order style and performing their first two albums back to back in their entireties. Fans will experience “Movement” plus “Power, Corruption and Lies” played under the same roof for the price of one show with Hooky and his backing band.

We spoke to Peter earlier this year while he was in town promoting his newest book and he had mentioned to Big Wheel that he’d be back before the end of the year with a very special show planned for the fans.

With that said we now know what to expect when he and his band The Light tear through two full New Order albums plus b-sides from the bands first few years of existence. He has already done this show in The UK to rave reviews and with a less than stellar New Order tour that passed through Coachella and other American festivals earlier in the year we can now look forward to a more intimate New Order’ish experience at a price that is easy on the wallet.

We can’t wait to see our favorite early New Order songs live come Sept 21st at The Fonda.

See you there!
