We Got Power! “We Survived The Pit” Book Release: Featuring Performances by The Adolescents – Saccharine Trust – The Last – White Flag – and Dead Issue – at Track 16 Gallery – Santa Monica CA
September 8, 2012
This show could have happened 30 years ago. This was Jordon Swartz & Dave Markey’s “We Got Power! "We Survived The Pit" event and book release. The show featured : Dead Issue/ White Flag/ The Last/ Saccharine Trust/ and Adolescents. This event was a 30 year remembrance of L.A. Punk as seen through the eyes of Jordon and Dave.
Half the fun was walking through the crowd of over 1,000 people and meeting up with old friends you haven’t seen in years. The event offered 5 rooms which offered movies/flyers/set lists/ and dozens of old photos of scenesters hanging out and shots of live bands. I was 19 again looking at all the photos and flyers of the past
The first band up was Dead Issue, originally from Palm Springs. The W.G.P. people had this special connection with P.S. in 1981, with his then Punk band Mutual Hatred. This line up featured younger members along with some O.G. members. They sounded tight with a metal edge.
Next up was White Flag: Original singer Al-Bum was crowd surfed to the stage. Also featuring original White Flag member Pat Fear and Mike Glass from Sin 34. They play a hard fast energy filled set.
Next up were The Last, they sounded great, I don’t understand why they don’t play more. The Last were the first Punk band out of the South Bay area. They played a short set, but played all their classics.
Next was Saccharine Trust: They sounded great as well, playing all the songs off the Paganicons LP. Joe and Jack are a great vocal team and tonight proved it once again
Finally up to finish a killer night was the mighty Adolescents: They started off with “No Way”, my favorite Adolescents tune. They also played new songs (Operation FTW/ Lockdown) that sounded great and fit perfect with there old tunes. Tony still sounds great on vocals along side with Steve Soto on Bass.
A big thanks to Jordon and Dave for a memorable night!
