Varukers – Reagan Youth – Doomsday Hour – The Voids – Knocked Out Cold – at The Glasshouse – Pomona, CA
October 16, 2009
As we drove by the Glasshouse on Friday the first thing I thought to myself was I hope the show isn’t sold out. It was crowded and there were punks everywhere. The line for entrance was packed, parking lots were full, and people were everywhere enjoying their drinks before they went inside. The line-up for the night consisted of Knocked Out Cold, The Voids, Doomsday Hour, Reagan Youth, and the Varukers.
I made it inside just as Knocked Out Cold started. They opened up with "We Were There". Like always, they have a lot of fans there to support them. A mini pit was formed and it got the adrenaline started for the night. Their set was cut short so they ended with their famous ska song Out On My Own.
Next to play was The Voids. Everyone that was outside came walking inside and filled the venue up quick. Before getting started the Voids announced that they had arrived late and that their set was going to be cut short because of that. They opened up with "Caught In A Void" and a pit was started instantly. They played songs like "Germ Warfare" and "Kill A Generation". Singer Adri announced that prior to their set someone had asked if they would play a certain song. She said they hadn’t played the song in over two years and to be prepared for them to screw up. They began playing "A Mess" and it sounded awesome. There were no mess-ups. The biggest pit of the night was started once they played their last song, "L.A.P.D".
Doomsday Hour was next. Their audience wasn’t as big but they still drew a crowd. They had a small pit but most people hadn’t heard of or seen them before. They were a lot harder sounding than the other bands that night. They sounded crust but still kept some of the hardcore punk sound in their music. Once they were done, people couldn’t wait for the next band.
Reagan Youth went on stage and everyone was cheering waiting for them to get started. They opened with "It’s A Beautiful Day" and people were moving around and singing. Around two minutes into the song the pit began and immediately following they began playing "Acid Rain". They played famous songs like "Are You Happy" and "Degenerated". The pit kept growing and more and more people began paying attention to them play. Every time they played another song it just kept getting better and better. They even played a new song that attracted fans just as much as their other songs do. Reagan Youth ended their set with "In Dog We Trust" and left everyone wanting to hear more, but there was no time.
Not even ten minutes later the Varukers took the stage. Everyone was still tired and sweaty from Reagan Youth’s set that they were shocked to hear Varukers come on so quickly. They opened up with "Protest And Survive" and you could see people running from all directions to watch them. They played famous songs like "Nothing’s Changed", "No Masters No Slaves", and "Die For Your Government". The pit was intense and people were constantly falling causing a group of people to fall over them. There were crowd surfers that fell and got trampled on and some that fell but got up kept up with the rhythm of the circle pit. I saw nose-bleeds, bloody and torn shirts, all evidence of people having a good time. The Varukers continued playing crowd favorites like "Don’t Wanna Be A Victim" and "All Systems Fail". They said goodnight but fans were chanting "One more song!” They played another song and ended the show.
The show was awesome and there couldn’t have been a better line-up for the show. It was a fun night full of good pits, good people, and great bands. If you didn’t make it to the show, you definitely missed out.
