UK SUBS – at Cafe Drummonds – Aberdeen, UK

Arrived at the venue in time to have a good conversation with Charlie Harper about an old video I have of him from 15 years back that’s had a subs gig and a cooking lesson on it. Seeing his enthusiasm at his age is great.

Would it be harsh to call him the grandfather of Punk at the age of 64, I think not, despite his advancing years he continues to tour extensively, typically still almost 80 concerts a year.

Intro music “what can I do with the drunken sailor” Is played on the sound system.

Charlie is straight into it jumping around like a youngster half his age, putting on a great show, playing classics like “stranglehold” “tomorrows girl” meanwhile there is plenty of punks moshing about but it is “warhead” that has the biggest reaction and everyone goes wild.

For “riot” the subs are joined on stage by members of local band Skizofrenik.

Also played was “keep on Running” which rarely gets an outing live.

This was the best I've seen the Subs in a long time, possibly because it was on the 22nd date of the tour, and they were still fresh.

There is nothing like a good old Punk band to bring out old face and new ones.
