The Dwarves – The Uprising – Critical Me – at Brick by Brick – San Diego, CA
January 17, 2009
Driving down from San Diego I arrived at Brick by Brick. This was the first time here and thank to Sulo (BBB) for getting me in. The set up is a great with a full bar and pool tables. After the 80 mile drive down from Namm Convention in Anaheim, I was ready for a cold PBR.
I got in as Art Official was ending there set. They are a three piece from the San Diego area. Ill look for more shows by them and keep you posted.
Up next was Critical Me out of San Diego. There 10 song set caught my attention as well as there fan base that was in attendance. Having been in the San Diego punk scene since 2001 they have opened for a number of shows around San Diego area. They have a free show coming up in Spring Valley on the 7th of February if you’re in the area Critical Me is a band to check out if you have a chance. Now it was time for The Uprising from Orange CA. There 30 minute set was full of energy with songs from there up coming release Appetite for Deception as well as there 1st ep We don’t Belong. It’s funny every time I go down to SD for a show there is a different type of crowd that is just not into the music and likes to stand around.

With Crab finally getting the crowd going when they played there Metal Melody and a cover of Black Flags Six pack with Rex Everything and He Who Can Not be Named coming out from back to do some back up vocals. They have a record release party coming up on February 7th at Hogue Barmichaels in Newport Beach with a Very Special Mystery Band.

The Dwarves never disappoint after hearing about there shows over the last two days in Long Beach and Vegas I was ready for them to come out and rock the place down and as it said on there my space page “All shows have low admission prices because we love you and as always, girls with braces, glasses and low self esteem get in free!!!”.

As the crowd fill the dance floor and the lights went out came out Rex, He in his black leather underwear and finally Blag. Opening with how it’s done the crowd had the energy I was looking for with a pit going and a few people getting there stage diving techniques down they played hits from down the list including River City, Better be women, Back Seat of my car, and the list goes on. The show ended with no encore but never the less it was all worth the long day and drive down south and look forward to the next time there in the area.
