Nomeansno – The Pack A.D. – Black Widows – The Knitting Factory – Hollywood, CA
October 14, 2009
This past Wednesday Canadian Punks Pack A.D. and Nomeansno graced Hollywood and everyone at The Knitting Factory with their awesome presence!
Gotta say I have been really excited about this show, Nomeansno was on of the bands that made me fall in love with Punk rock! The album they have with Jello Biafra "The Sky is Falling and I Want my Mommy" was my all time favorite album at the ripe age of 14! These guys have been killing it for more than 30 years! Intellectual, hard, and melodic all at the same time, I felt truly honored to be able to finally see a live show from them.
I have to give it up for The Knitting Factory! This was my first time shooting a show there, and is now by far, my favorite Hollywood Venue! The staff was great, loved the bartenders and security, loved the atmosphere and crowd, and my favorite part was finding a 3 dollar beer in Hollywood! Amazing!!!!!

When I arrived there was a band called The Black Widows opening, they had black stockings over their heads and played there set without lyrics, rather they put up signs and pictures to go with their music instead, I wasn’t completely won over by this band at all, but they were interesting to say the least.

Pack AD came on next, I gotta say I was impressed by this dynamic girl duo. The singer had a soulful voice like Janice Joplin but the music was fast and hard, and the drummer beat her drums like they were a redheaded stepchild, between the two of these girls, the sound they put out was amazing! I was pleasantly surprised by their set.

The moment I had been waiting for, for the last 16 years! Nomeansno live! The show started off slow and gradually built up and finally a pit broke out for about the last 5 songs. This band was so great live, they look like they are in their 50′s or 60′s and just dominate the crowd with their stage presence! All eyes and energy to the stage I was stoked to see so many people just as excited about this show as I was! All hail Nomeansno! I hope they tour for another 20 years, I’m just glad that I finally had the chance to experience them live!

Seriously all lovers of Punk Music should take a trip back in time and put on a Nomeansno CD. They are on tour now, so if you get a chance to catch them, do it! You won’t be disappointed.
