A Pretty Mess – Agent 86 – The Disowned – SFT – Aces and 8′s – End Transmission – at The Double Down Saloon – Las Vegas, NV

September 11, 2009

I arrived early at The Double Down that night because 2 of the coolest DJ'S were spinning the tunes on Double Down radio and they were D.J. STARR and Turbo from The Vermin. They were playing the greatest Punk tunes from back in the day. So I just was kicking back listening to the great music waiting for the show to begin.

First up was local band SFT. These guys are just pure hardcore Punk!!! They blasted through their set like there was no tomorrow. If I could grow hair it would be like their guitar players awesome Mohawk. But seriously they smoked The Double Down, what an incredible way to start the night.

Up 2nd was a band from Ventura Calif. called "End Transmission." These guys started their set by saying "WE DON'T BELONG HERE" Which may have been a true statement, They played Pop Rock N' Roll. I believe that if they were on a bill with the same type of band as they are, their reception would have been much better received. They just happened to be playing with punk bands and they are "pop" Not a bad band just on the wrong bill.

Next up was a band from San Diego Calif. called Aces and 8'S with their 2 guitar players one of them being  a very animated lead singer as well as a very good musician, they pulled off a very cool 30 to 40 minute set. What amazed me the most was this tiny girl who I thought was just helping set up the drum kit, but in actuality was the Drummer and boy let me tell you she can play!

Put them all together with the mad bass lines and you got a group of very talented musicians,  that Jammed The Double Down. Very Good band. San Diego seems to have alot of talented musicians.

Up 4th is one of my favorite Las Vegas bands Agent 86 with Mike Briggs on lead guitar and vocals,  Chris Piss on bass and vocals, and now on drums Is KASHA she totally reminds me of Sandy West "R.I.P." from "The Runaways" with their mix of Reggae, Punk, and Hardcore this band smokes. Playing their 30 t0 40 minute set seems like only 5 minutes. You want them to keep playing. You can see them on sept 18th. at Boomers with The Originators. It's Sure to be an incredible show as all of Roxies shows are good. If your in town go check them out.
Pretty Mess
The 5th band on this Punk bill was a band from Los Angeles Calif. Called "A Pretty Mess" This 4 girl quartet is extermely talented, A cross between The Dollyrots, and the Runaways they bashed out their set with pure AUTHORITY, with DMESS on guitar and lead vocals, Meghan on bass, Mel on Drums, and Nancy on lead guitar, all girls lending a hand on vocals, they just had me and the crowd in the palm of their hands.

With songs like Speed, Shiver, Going Nowhere Fast, and Despair. They kicked Ass. These girls are "HARDCORE"  Another highly recommended must see band.

Last But Not Least was another L.A. Band Called The Disowned. Meghan from A Pretty Mess also plays bass for The Disowned. By the time they hit the stage it was around 3:00 a.m. I must admit I was a little tired, but once this hardcore band started playing I was wide awake. and stayed awake until after 5:00 in the a.m. their music stayed with me all the way home. despite them only playing till around 3:30 a.m. They Played Fast and Furious !!!

Once again another awesome line up at The Double Down Saloon in my town of Las Vegas.
