The Action – Complete Punk Rock Recordings 1977-1978
January 3, 2010
This collection of recordings by the early Canadian punk band, the Action captures a band who were obviously caught up in the attitude and raw simplicity of the first wave of Punk rock bands coming from both the States and the U.K. There’s a bit of a pub rock feel and some subtler Glam influences. Overall the sound is sort of like a mix between Slaughter and the Dogs and the New York Dolls. It seems that all over the world 1977 marked a transition between bar based rock n roll bands and Punk rock. For the most part The Action pulled off this transition well, but the unreleased tracks on this collection perhaps should have stayed unreleased as the energy is low and the guitars are mostly inaudible. However songs like "T.V.’s On the Blink" and the bands cover of the Velvet’s "Waiting For The Man" show that the Action were certainly able to rock out.
