NOFX – The Longest EP
August 16, 2010
After a strenuous year that consisted of endless touring, a 25th anniversary show, a full-length album release, and an EP release, NOFX has continued the effort into this year by providing fans with yet another opportunity to experience the band’s musical journey in form of an EP. Released through Fat Wreck Chords, NOFX’s "The Longest EP" correctly delivers a title that describes what the EP has in store for fans planning on getting their hands on this release; the EP is lengthy in time and is largely a collection of several EPs the band has already released, though a few bonus rarities do contribute to the EP’s tracklist. Spanning from 1987-2009, the songs that compose "The Longest EP" showcase different eras of NOFX’s reign, and also showcase the progression of a band that continues to deliver and shape Punk rock in all its forms.
"The Longest EP" serves up a compilation of NOFX’s existing EPs, and includes "Cokie The Clown", "Never Trust a Hippy"(Minus Seeing Double At The Triple Rock and The Marxist Brothers), "The Longest Line", "13 Stitches", "The P.M.R.C. Can Suck On This", and song Hardcore 84 from "Regaining Unconsciousness". "New" songs do appear in "The Longest EP", though they can already be found in other compilations such as "Rock Against Bush Vol. 1" and "Take Action Vol. 4". Songs "Perverted", "Jaw Knee Music", and "Concerns of a GOP Neo-phyte" take part in the collection of known NOFX songs to finally make themselves better acquainted with fans who had not known about the presence of these songs before. "The Longest EP" is a treat for fans who may have failed to invest their money in buying each of NOFX’s previously released EPs, yet it is also a treat in that it combines singles with the EPs, and ultimately provides the bonus of a vivid illustration of the band’s songs via the cover art. It’s safe to say NOFX undermines their song "Fuck The Kids" with a gift as thoughtful and elaborate as "The Longest EP".
