For Fuck Sake – Trapped Like a Rat

April 2, 2010

For Fuck Sake record reviewFor a band who started out by "recording shit on the computer" and simply asking female lead vocalist Chantal to "come over and scream", For Fuck Sake, has been going strong ever seen and have made a respectable name for themselves in the crust Punk music scene. Signed onto Unrepentant Records and based in Riverside, For Fuck Sake’s "Trapped Like a Rat" is undeniable proof that they remain in the ranks of bands such as Blatz and Naked Aggression. Their full length album includes tight songs pertaining to Punk topics like the failures of society, religion, and of course, beer.

Through these sixteen tracks, the anger, frustration and passion of the band become apparent and infectious, especially through Chantal’s voice. It’s hard to pick the most notable songs on "Trapped Like a Rat", only because of their working class ideals, raw energy and thought-provoking and deep lyrics (namely "Seize Fate by the Throat", "Gods and Prophecies, "Got an Itch", and "Epitaph") employed in almost every song; humor displayed in the others such as "Rum Rum Rum" and "Cheers to Beers", where most of their thrash grind elements come in. For Fuck Sake also addresses the growing issue of corruption and following societal standards through a number of their songs, including "Fashion Disorder", "Disappear", "Two Faced Fuck" and the short but powerful, "Miscarriage of Civilization". However, the band isn’t all just angst; they take time to acknowledge a role model and savior to them in the touching song, "Pamela".

If you’ve missed out on their EP "Piss Drunk", released in August 2009, "Trapped Like a Rat" proves to be a high-quality record that will satisfy any crust Punk fan. Full of intensity and fury, For Fuck Sake raises the bar higher for other bands already in and entering the genre and are a must-listen to.
