D.O.A. – Kings Of Punk, Hockey, and Beer

January 7, 2010

DOAUpon first inspection the title of this album seemed like it was just a silly name that didn’t have much to do with the actual songs on the CD. However it turns out that almost every song on this collection is actually about either hockey or drinking. This seems a little strange from a band that made a name for themselves with political Punk songs like "World War 3," "The Prisoner," "Class War," and "Fucked Up Ronnie," but what can be said except that DOA are from Canada?

Almost all of these songs are actually from previous albums that D.O.A. have put out since the mid 1990’s. Thankfully the music is all classic D.O.A. with singalong choruses and chunky guitar sounds. Overall the album provides some good listening material and no fan of D.O.A.’s other Punk records would be disappointed in the sound of this album. I’m also sure that there are probably plenty of people that could truly appreciate the subject matter. The only notable problem is that Slapshot doesn’t even get a "thank you" message in the liner notes. They might be looking for some royalties soon or they at least might want to challenge D.O.A. to a game on the ice.
