Horace Panter Exhibition - at The Artists Gallery - Aberdeen, UK - October 27 - November 27, 2012Horace graduated in 1975 with a degree in Fine Art from Coventry’s Lanchester Polytechnic. Although most of his career had been defined by his involvement in music, art has always been in the frame!

As bassist with the Specials, Horace spent lots of time touring. Over the last 3 decades this has given him the opportunity to visit some of the world’s best art galleries and to view some of his favourite paintings up close and personal. As well as bringing home piles of laundry, his bags always bulge with new art books and hundred of photographs, have all inspired his current work and influenced its development over many years.

After spending 10 years as Head of art in a school for autistic children, Horace decided it was time to dedicate some of his time to producing his own work.  Some of his recent work is based on drawing he did 10- 15 years ago which have only just been realised as paintings. With the Specials reforming in Late 2009, he had the opportunity to really nail this ambition! It was not until November 2011 that he had his first public exhibition at the Strand Gallery in London.Horace Panter Exhibition - at The Artists Gallery - Aberdeen, UK - October 27 - November 27, 2012

It was great to see Horace take his art to Aberdeen, and come up in person to spend time in the gallery and launch night.

Quite a few people braved the snow that had descended upon Aberdeen that day, and Horace chatted to people about his painting in depth, you could see his passion about his art, as explained from the start process to the finished article.

There were people there for the art but also fans of the Specials just to meet and chat to Horace, a surprise visitor was Mickey Foote who produced the 1st Clash album, and who Horace hadn’t seen in 30 years, if my mind remembers correctly. The Galleries other rooms was open too, there is a music room , where there is music posters by the rolling stones and other bands , a full size drum kit that belonged to Bill Legend T-rex drummer.
